What Carp Rig Length Should You Choose?
The length of a carp rig should match the way the setup is presented, the rig construction and the type of lakebed at the fishing spot. In my setups, it is most often 15–18 cm for a casting Combi Rig, around 12–13 cm for a Solid Bag, and 25–40 cm when baiting by boat. I treat these ranges as starting points and adjust them when the rig or hookbait does not settle as intended.

Hooklink for a pop-up, wafter or bottom bait? How to match the presentation?
A rig for a sinking bait should allow it to rest on the bottom while giving the hook freedom to work, whereas a pop-up rig should keep the bait suspended above the lakebed. With a wafter, you need to check how its buoyancy works together with the weight of the hook and attachment; in my rigs, I expect the bait to sit slightly raised, with the hook lying flat on the bottom. I always make the final choice after testing it in water, with the bait mounted on the finished rig.

Soft braid, coated braid, mono or fluorocarbon — which material for a carp rig?
Choose your carp rig material according to the function required by the selected rig design: a soft braid provides freedom of movement, a coated braid allows you to create sections with varying stiffness, while suitably selected mono and fluorocarbon can form stiff sections or complete rigs. The material name alone is not enough — check its actual stiffness, sinking properties and behaviour once connected to the hook and bait.

Carp Rigs — How to Match a Rig to the Bait and Fishing Conditions?
Choose your carp rig to suit the bait type, rig presentation method and conditions at the venue. It should allow for proper bait presentation, free hook movement and reduce the risk of tangles during casting and the drop. Below, we explain how to combine these requirements and when to choose a complete ready-made rig, ready-made sections or tie your own.

What Size Hook for Carp?
Choosing the right size of carp hook is a very important issue that translates to the final result of a perfectly hooked fish in your landing net. When selecting the proper hook size, one can consider the season, although it often simply comes down to the size of the bait used. The most common hook sizes are 2, 4, 6, and 8, but one can also find extremely large or small sizes such as 1 and 10.

What are PVA materials?
Dissolvable PVA materials are an ingenious convenience that has been used by carp anglers around the world for many years. They primarily allow you to precisely introduce bait around the hook bait on the hair, making it much more attractive.
This enables you to create a small trap around the bait to entice any nearby feeding carp into quickly taking it.
