Rigs for presenting floating baits above the bottom
Carp rigs for pop-ups use the bait’s buoyancy to lift it above the bottom. In this category, you will find ready-made setups for low presentation of a bait boilie, as well as models that allow it to be positioned higher, depending on the design and length of the hook section. This choice makes it possible to match the presentation to the nature of the venue and the layer lying on the bottom.
Individual rigs differ in material, hook size, bait attachment and weighting method. Their correct positioning depends on the balance between the buoyancy of the pop-up and the weight of the hook and other components. Therefore, the size and buoyancy of the boilie are also important when choosing a ready-made setup.
Ronnie Rig, Chod Rig and Hinged Stiff Rig
Ronnie Rig and Spinner Rig carp rigs are popular solutions for presenting pop-ups just above the bottom. The connection between the hook and the swivel provides movement of the hook section. Depending on the model, it works with a stiff boom or a section of coated braid, allowing the rig’s properties to be matched to the planned setup.
Chod Rig and Hinged Stiff Rig rigs use a stiff hook section, most often made from mono or fluorocarbon material, which maintains its characteristic shape. The length of this section allows the rig to be matched to the type of bottom, from soft bottoms to those covered with a layer of vegetation. Chod Rig is a short rig designed for use with a suitable chod or helicopter setup. In a Hinged Stiff Rig, the hook section is hinged to a longer rig section, making it suitable for use in classic carp setups, for example with a safety clip. Both designs allow a floating bait to be presented above the weighting point while maintaining proper balance of the setup.
