Bite Alarms
Bite alarms are undoubtedly one of the most fundamental pieces of equipment for the modern carp angler. They notify you of a fish bite, usually through sound, light, and movement signals resulting from the tension on the line. We categorize them into mechanical and electronic bite alarms.
Electronic bite alarms - detect line movements caused by bites and relay both sound and light information. High-end bite alarms with a receiver have built-in transmitters, which send bite information via radio to the receiver, significantly facilitating fishing as we do not have to constantly watch the rods. A bite alarm with a receiver will alert us of a bite when we are sleeping in a tent or if we move away from our fishing spot.
Mechanical bite alarms - are responsible for the physical signaling of bites. They usually work by attaching the alarm head to the main line, which moves the head when there are sudden movements from a fish biting the hook, thus signaling a bite. Mechanical bite alarms are commonly divided into hangers and swingers, which differ in the type of arm connecting the head to the base. Hangers have a "soft," often chain-like connection, whereas swingers are equipped with a rigid arm.
