Carp swingers

Carp swingers are mechanical bite indicators mounted beneath an electronic bite alarm. The swinger head moves on a rigid arm and holds the line in a clip. When a fish takes the bait and moves away or swims towards the bank, the swinger shows changes in line tension, making it easier to spot a bite quickly. Depending on the model, swingers are available individually or in ready-made sets containing several pieces.

Rigid arm and line tension adjustment

A rigid arm distinguishes a swinger from a hanger. Many models feature a sliding weight or spring adjustment, allowing the line tension to be changed. This design limits the free movement of the head in windy conditions and helps match the swinger to the fishing distance. Available models may feature a magnetic or gate clip, illumination when connected to a bite alarm, and a slot for a betalight.

Swinger for an electronic bite alarm

A swinger works with an electronic bite alarm but does not normally produce sound on its own. Its purpose is to maintain the correct line tension and indicate line movement during a bite. It can be used with a single bite alarm or a set from the bite alarms with receiver category. For illuminated models, the bite alarm must have a suitable socket for connecting the indicator.

Swinger vs. carp hanger

In a swinger, the head is connected to a bankstick or buzz bar using a rigid arm. Carp hangers most commonly use a chain, cord or flexible cable, so they move more freely. Both types of indicators show takes away from the bank and drop-back bites, but differ in design and the way line tension is adjusted.
