Silicone Tube Rig - The Perfect Leader for Sinking Baits

The Silicone Tube Rig is undoubtedly one of the most effective rigs dedicated to sinking baits. Over the years, it has been responsible for catching a significant number of record carp all around the globe.

Its effectiveness is attributed to the silicone tube, which hinders the carp from spitting out the bait and ensures that the hook perfectly sets in the lower lip. It's important to select the proper diameter of the tube to match the size of the hook so that it can slide towards the hook's eye during a take. This rig is particularly suitable for baiting with a throw stick, as the tube may shift its position during stronger casts. I personally use it in almost all conditions, and I especially value it for its simplicity and devilishly good effectiveness.

Now you too can learn how to create the perfect Silicone Tube Rig in a few easy steps!

To make the rig, you will need:

    1. Carp hook, in this case, I usually use models with a wide gape bend, known as Wide Gape
    2. Soft braided hooklink
    3. Silicone tubing
    4. Hook positioner such as a Kicker, you can also use heat shrink tubing
    5. Bait stop for securing bait on the hair
    6. Baiting needle for mounting bait on the hair
    7. Scissors for trimming the braid
    8. Knot pulling tool
    9. Bait, in my case, a boilies

    Steps to follow:

1 Prepare your favorite soft braid and tie a loop that will be used to attach the bait.
2 Cut approximately 35cm of braided line and prepare the bait you intend to fish with.
3 Thread the bait onto the hair, secure it with a bait stop, and prepare about a half-centimeter section of silicone tubing.
4 Slide the tube onto the braid and prepare the hook - I personally use Wide Gape type hooks for making this leader.
5 Thread the silicone tubing onto the hook point and slide it towards the shank, positioning it correctly.
6 Set the appropriate hair length – it's best if it is at least 2cm, but for larger baits, it's worth extending it even further.
7 After determining the appropriate hair length, tie the hook with a classic knotless knot.
8 Prepare a rig aligner or a piece of shrink tubing and thread it onto the braid.
9 Next, gently slide it onto the hook's eye in the proper direction so that the entire assembly forms a crescent shape.
10 Finish the rig with a classic loop, allowing you to attach it to a standard swivel or a quick-change swivel. All set!
