Carp Cradles
Carp cradles are mats on a frame designed for the safe unhooking, weighing, and short-term holding of large fish on the shore. This category includes only carp cradles elevated above the ground, supported on a stable frame or legs. This distinction is important because the term carp cradle is sometimes also used for mats with very high sides, but here you will find frame-based constructions.
Carp Cradle on a Frame
A carp cradle differs from a classic mat in that it does not lie directly on the ground. The fish is placed in a soft, protected space elevated above the ground, which limits contact with sand, stones, grass, or mud. A stable frame, raised sides, and a properly padded surface increase the carp’s safety during unhooking and preparation for photographing or weighing.
One of the Safest Mats for Large Fish
The fishing cradle is often chosen when targeting large carp and grass carp because it provides a high level of protection for the fish on the shore. This type of construction is also required at many carp fisheries where great emphasis is placed on the safety of caught fish. Compared to flat carp mats, cradles offer a more enclosed and elevated space, and compared to carp mats with sides, they stand out due to the presence of a frame.
Cradles Among Carp Mats
Carp cradles are one of the constructions available in the broader category of carp mats. Alongside them, there are also inflatable carp mats, flat models, and mats with sides, which differ in design, transport method, and level of fish protection. When weighing or transporting large specimens, the cradle works well with additional accessories such as carp slings.
