Carp Hooks
Carp hooks are a type of hook specifically designed for catching carp and other larger fish, characterized by thick, strong wire, and a particular eye shape. Carp hooks are divided into barbed models and barbless based on their shapes.
What to consider when buying carp hooks?
Width of the gape - A wide gape ensures a significantly better grip on the fish's mouth during the fight. A narrow gape has a higher hooking rate but due to its shallow penetration, it's not recommended for fishing around snags.
Wire thickness - hooks come in various wire thicknesses. With a thin wire, the bait is much easier for the fish to suck in, increasing the chance of a bite; however, it will not withstand excessive strain during the fight in snags or vegetation - here, a hook with a thicker wire will perform much better.
Angle of the eye - The eye can be bent inwards, set straight in relation to the shank, or bent outwards. Choosing the right hook model with a bent eye is important for the rig materials used - soft braided lines or stiff monofilament materials.
Hook shank - It can be short, long as well as straight or curved. Select the shank according to the fishing method, type of bait, and the conditions you are fishing in.
Direction of the point - Typical carp hooks come in two options: with a straight point (straight), and with the point curved inwards (beaked).
