Zig Bugs are floating carp flies tied on shank without hooks. When fish are not feeding on the bottom but are moving through the water column or picking off baits from the surface, instead of sitting idly waiting for a miracle, let's try a different approach and present the bait where the fish are. Fishing in the mid-water with a Zig Rig setup is a much more active form of carp fishing than the usual waiting for a bite. After casting the setup, leave it in place for 20-30 minutes; if nothing happens - change the depth at which the bait is swimming, switch the bait, or recast the setup. When fishing with a zig rig, the rule is if nothing happens - take action! Zig Bugs can be additionally flavored but from experience, I know that it's not necessary. The flies (Zig Bugs) mimic insects which fish naturally feed on.
